MIT Club of Spain attends MIT Alumni London Volunteer Workshop
Past November 8th and 9th Javier Torres, President of MIT Club of Spain was present at London MIT Alumni Workshop, where the main goal was to transmit to European MIT Clubs the ‘Make a Better World’ MIT purpose.
The welcome was in charge of Pappudu “Pop” Siriam, founder and CEO of PS Consultants and member of MIT Corporation Development Committee. We could also listen to David Schmitlein, John C Head III Dean and Professor of Marketing at MIT Sloan School of Management.
A panel of MIT Alumni experts talked about investing in a sustainable planet:
Maria Zuber, VidePresident for Research E.A. Griswold Professor of Geographic’s, Alpha Tacob Arsano, Phd Candidate and Building Technology, Department of Architecture, Researcher, MIT Sustainable Design Lab and
Jason Jay, Senior Lecturer at MIT Sloan of Management, Director MIT Sloan Sustainability initiative.
Goal: Make a Better World
MIT is working on the engagement platform for Better World partners. MIT Alumni aims to align Alumni Association activities to create seamless and coordinated meeting of vision, mission and goals and create a more visible presence of Better World content.
As we were told, Alumni have different definitions of “better world” but the basic idea is that “we solve problems.”
Solving problems is in our DNA: Looking at the world as a series of challenges and steps for even the most complex and seemingly unsolvable issues.
We liked this message: if we connect problem-solving to a sense of purpose and provide participation options to match different life stage needs, activation could unleash an army of “better world” agents.
It has been so amazing to know the projects that MIT is already sponsoring to make a better world in the fields of reducing pollution, energy (more productive and environmental friendly batteries), society (app to educate stakeholders about climate change) or tools to build more efficient buildings.
We are definitely convinced to make “better world” come alive in Spain, we will try to engage and improve the awareness among our associates, focusing on ideas, involvement and connections.
Some information and news about MIT Alumni
In the conference we had the opportunity to learn about the new capabilities of MIT Alumni platform, which will be available for MIT Spain Club very soon.
We also had a workshop with the different MIT Alumni Clubs in Europe. We exchanged best practices and how to better collaborate together to engage our alumni and drive MIT Mission. There are over 4,000 alumni in Europe, and we also learned that this community is more engaged with MIT than the average MIT Alumi.
